Bob Munroe
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Bob has been in the computer animation industry since 1985, transitioning into feature film and television digital visual effects and animation in 1993. Shortly after, Bob, along with three partners (including actor- writer-director-producer William Shatner) formed C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, adding C.O.R.E. Feature Animation in 2003. Over its sixteen year history, with more than 600 jobs created and $400M in business brought into Ontario, C.O.R.E. produced visual effects and animation for well over one hundred productions, including being the production company for Disney’s $80M film, The Wild. As Supervising Producer on that film, Bob was responsible for managing the budget and overseeing a staff of 360 crew.
Serving as Producer, Director, and/or Visual Effects Supervisor on many projects over his career, Bob has received numerous Gemini (now Canadian Screen Awards) nominations - including three wins, an Emmy nomination, and a Visual Effects Society nomination.
In the late 1990’s, Bob developed a unique procedure that enables digital artists to match lighting from real world film sets to synthetic lights in a computer generated environment. The process was awarded both U.S. and Canadian patents.
In addition to effects supervision, directing and producing, Bob is Past Chairman, and twenty-eight year former member, of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Film Centre. He is a member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT), The Director’s Guild of Canada (DGC) and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS). In 2006, Bob was named the recipient of the Premier’s Award (Ontario) for the Creative Arts and Design sector.
Bob is a Professor in Digital Film at the DeTao Masters Academy in Beijing, China. He is also a past board member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and current board member of IlluminOcean. Married with two grown children and one grandchild, Bob and his wife are avid snow skiers and scuba divers. Bob also enjoys piloting gliders. They continue to support many causes through volunteer and philanthropic means.
